Here is a weekend project:


Cardboard Box Marble Maze

Here is what you need to make one:

 - a cardboard box
- scissors or a utility knife (with parent supervision)
- craft sticks/popsicle sticks (the wide kind is best)
- hot glue gun (with parent supervision)
- a nickel
- a pencil

Start with a box with a lid and cut the lid off (e.g. a pizza box). Make the track by cutting craft sticks and hot gluing them to the box. Build the track a little at a time so that you can test it out.Trace a nickel (the perfect size) and cut out the circles with scissors or a utility knife with parent supervision. Place your marble into the box and play with your new labyrinth game!

Equator/Poles/Hemispheres

Here is a link to the "Geography Song". Students will become familiar with the terms equator, north pole, south pole, west hemisphere, and east hemisphere.

Take a closer look at a globe. A globe is a model of the whole Earth. Watch the video link below:

Look at the "Continents of the World" map provided above. Find all 7 continents. Locate the oceans. How many oceans are shown here? In the year 2000, a fifth ocean was named. The Southern Ocean completely surrounds Antarctica. Find on a globe or this map where the Southern Ocean is located.


Science & Engineering for Kids: Paper Building Blocks

Most paper crafts revolve around creating something fancy out of paper, but did you know that you could use paper as a structural material? Simple paper building blocks are a great way to demonstrate engineering for kids. Take a material that is weak in and of itself, fold it into a robust shape, like a triangle, and viola, you are now building with paper! Try cutting strips of paper and folding them into triangles. Tape each triangle closed. Now you can build!!
